Crystal South Surf Camp is seriously committed to safety. Through the years we have many students that come to us after taking a surfing lesson with someone else, either at another surf camp or a just a surfer who wants to make some bucks and says he can teach. Recognizing that all instructors do not teach the same safety skills that we focus on, we have established a Surfing Safety Certification process for instructors worldwide.We always review our basic safety skills to make sure the student surfer knows certain details that we consider basic and essential to a safe and effective experience. We teach you how to actually manage the surfboard in whitewater by yourself without getting hurt. We teach you how to catch waves without nose-diving (purling) by yourself. We teach you what will happen when you do nose-dive and how to keep from getting seriously hurt. We do way more than holding your surfboard, pushing you into the wave and yelling "STAND UP" Our typical safety lesson is half the class on the first day, before you get wet. We teach you where to be, where not to be and what to do to keep from getting hurt if you are where you are not supposed to be. With real surfing, things can happen pretty fast, and if you are not taught what can happen and how to prevent it, you will likely realize your worst fears. We teach you how to manage all of this because we have been there. When it gets big, we are out there, surfing and having fun. We don't want to sit in the office and run the phones trying to sign people up. Being a great teacher is different from being a great surfer. Just because you can surf, doesn't mean that you can teach surfing. That is why we have started this Surfing Safety Certification process for instructors worldwide. Our Surfing Teacher
Training program is designed to give the Surfing Teacher the skills to
SAFELY and EFFECTIVELY teach surfing to students of each level. 
We have successfully coached boys and girls, allowing them to discover their own natural talent and build upon this foundation. We can teach you how to teach these skills.
The Junior Surfing Safety Instructor program includes Lifeguard and CPR training and is designed to provide the Junior Instructor with a deeper understanding of the safety issues in surfing. This program is suitable for mature 15-17 year old students.
The Beginning Surfing Safety Instructor program includes Lifeguard and CPR training and is designed to provide the Beginning Instructor with a deeper understanding of the safety issues in surfing as well as fundamentals of teaching beginning surfing. This program is suitable for mature 18 and older.
The Advanced Surfing Safety Instructor program is designed to provide the Intermediate Instructor with a deeper understanding of the safety issues in surfing larger waves as well as fundamentals and techniques of teaching Next Level skills. Our practical approach includes Surf Yoga for flexibility, real experience in a variety of conditions, and the opportunity to apply your skills in the field.
Prerequisite:
The Competition Surfing Safety Instructor program is designed to provide the Advanced Instructor with a deeper understanding of the safety issues in surfing big waves as well as fundamentals and techniques of teaching Coaching for Competition skills. Our practical approach includes Surf Yoga for flexibility, real experience in a variety of conditions, and the opportunity to apply your skills in the field.
